Technical and Production Information - The Now Building

Connectivity

The Now Building has the following connectivity panels:

  • 2 x Floor Level Stage / FOH main panels
  • 7 x small floor level panels
  • 18 x Ceiling Panels

The FOH and Stage panels can be run in 2 modes:

  • Basic setup – this allows for a stereo audio feed in and out of the system along with network tie lines to and from the other main panel and guest patch rack in the touring rack rooms located at Level -1.
  • Enhanced setup – this uses a separate rack to enable the audio tie lines to stage and guest patch rack, additional audio analogue system I/O along with the fibre tie lines to stage and the guest patch rack.

Main connectivity panels

Contain the following I/O:

  • 4 x Ethernet (ETH A through D) back to the guest patch rack
  • 2 x Analogue inputs and outputs directly to / from the PA system. These could be used for a DJ set up and some additional powered speakers, for instance.
  • 2 x Ethernet ports directly to the data centre and building LAN for internet access and to other zones
  • 2 x Q-LAN ports (to connect the enhanced system rack)
  • 8 x Data tie lines between stage and FOH panels (ETH-A through H). These can be used for audio, lighting, and video desks
  • 4 x BNC connections for mixing desks and timecode
  • The Optical and Input 1-16 connect to the optional enhanced mode rack.

And contains the following power:

  • 2 x 63 a 3ph

Our mobile rack allows for additional I/O and tie line options for bigger, more complex events. There are 4 identical racks that can be used with any I/O Panel or network port that can be patched to the Q-SYS network.

Tech Detail 2

Once connected to the Multipin audio connector and fibre OpticalCon and QLAN ports in the main floor boxes the following additional inputs are available:

  • 12 x Send or return XLR ties lines to between the 2 main floor boxes. These can be used for Comms, DMX, audio etc
  • 4 x Send or return lines to the guest patch rack. These could be used to patch additional analogue or AES signals into the L-ISA system via the I/O in the guest patch rack, or for sending signals to additional amplifiers in the guest touring patch room
  • 8 x Analogue inputs to the PA system. These inputs can be routed to the 8 x Analogue outputs from the PA system
  • 8 x OpticalCON Duo fibre connections between the rack and the guest patch rack

Smaller Connectivity Panels

Contain the following I/O:

  • 2 OpticalCON DUO inputs
  • 2 Cat6A Ethercons that link back to the guest patch rack

And the following power:

  • 4 x 13a sockets

The fibre could be used for sending HDMI over fibre back to the guest patch room and on to the screens for a live gaming event, for example. Additional cameras could also use this feature to send video back to the guest patch room.

Audio inputs could utilise the network ports to patch into the Dante network or to connect the mobile rack to gain additional I/O.

Ceiling Panels

All ceiling connections terminate at the Guest Patch Rack which can be divided into 3 subsections:

Type 1 – Rigging (not included in the 18)

  • 1 x Ethercon Socket
  • 1 x Powercon True 1 TOP

Type 2 – Rigging and AV Data Connectivity

  • 2 x EtherCon
  • 1 x PowerCon True 1 TOP
  • 1 x PowerCon 20a

Type 3 & 4 – Enhanced Rigging and AV Connection Box (always paired)

Type 3

  • 1 x EtherCon (for rigging)
  • 1 x PowerCon True 1 TOP (for rigging)
  • 2 x Ethercon (AV Use)
  • 2 x PowerCon 20a (AV Use)

Type 4

  • 4 x NL4 Sockets
  • 4 x XLR

Key:

Yellow – Type 1
Green – Type 2
Purple – Type 3 & 4
